The Blood Pressure Story
Blood Pressure is the intensity of the blood pushing against the insides of the arteries. Blood Pressure is measured with two numbers. The bigger number indicates the pressure in the arteries when your heart pushes out blood with each beat. It is known as Systolic Blood Pressure. The smaller number indicates the pressure when the heart relaxes before the next beat. It is known as Diastolic Blood Pressure.
It is agreed that somewhere between 110/70 and 125/80 is considered to be an average Blood Pressure for an adult.
High Blood Pressure makes the heart work much harder, raising risk for heart attack, stroke, even vision problems. Blood Pressure greater than 180/110 is dangerous. There are no symptoms to alert you of High Blood Pressure.
High Blood Pressure is a simple diagnosis and treatments are available. Check your blood pressure regularly especially if there is history of high blood pressure in your family. And don’t neglect to stimulate your heart with a brisk walk. Every day if possible.
